Derrick Adams is a multidisciplinary artist from Baltimore MD who currently lives and works in Brooklyn NY. He moved to New York in 1993 to attend Pratt Institute College of Art where he received his BFA in 1996 and graduated with an MFA from Columbia University, New York, in 2003. His work resides in the collections of The Studio Museum in Harlem; The Brooklyn Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; The Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, among many others. Adams has held numerous teaching positions and is currently a tenured assistant professor in the School of Visual, Media and Performing Arts at CUNY Brooklyn College. He also holds an honorary doctorate from Maryland Institute College of Art. He continues to have strong family ties in his hometown of Baltimore where he devotes a considerable amount of his time developing community based programs and related endeavors geared toward elevating the lives of local marginalized citizens who are impacted by the challenges of underrepresentation.
